running slow again

About 10 days ago, my Windows XP PC was running very slow, especially online, and I posted, was guided through a fix, and all seemed better. Now it's happening again.

I've done all the read-me-first steps (except that I had to do some steps in normal, not safe, mode due to a glitch w/ my touch pad that disables it in safe mode so I have no mouse).

May I post a HJT log or is there some other action I can take?

Do you have any other tips of what the problem could be? Could it be my broadband modem or my isp? Sometimes it seems to me as if something else must be running, the pages take so long to load. Could I have some IE setting set wierd or maybe competing programs? Are these issues I should address in a different forum if it's not malware?

 

Thanks, I'll clean up startup and look into a modem exchange. The PC itself and the broadband were lighting fast until these troubles started, but seeing as how a power surge recently wasted my router it's possible the modem suffered a little too.

 

Just as an addendum. Right after I left this site after the last post, IE kicked me off the web and I was unable to get back on due to a runtime error in IE (said it was terminated in "an unusual way"). Went to a friends. Looked up solutions, and found that deleting the google toolbar would fix it. It did. This must all be related somehow though. Will switch to software forum. I'm wondering if Norton settings are at the root of this and not my Modem. I've had that google toolbar for a long time problem free, but I recently upgraded Norton and it messed with the bar.
