How do I succesfully install Windows 3.1 on my XP computer ?

I have tried pretending I am in DOS (DOS command window in XP) and going from there but I was unsuccessful.

How would I install/run other software that installs/runs from the DOS prompt (on DOS machines) but create their own windows ?

Download Virtual Box here and install it:

Then find .isos of DOS (version 7.1) and Win 3.1 or make them. You can use CDs in VirtualBox if you have them. Create and name a virtual drive for the installation in VirtualBox. Mount the DOS 7.1 iso and install in VirtualBox on the virtual drive you just created. Then 3.1. Enjoy

Here's a video, and you may need to refer to the help in VirtualBox a time or two. I have 3.1 installed in VirtualBox on XP. It's easy to do, once you know your way around VirtualBox a little bit

I'd suggest Microsoft's Virtual PC -its free and it is geared to all MS OSes.
