Runtime Error in Explorer.exe

My computer has been getting slower and slower, and locking up this week.....I am running windows98se, 64mb of ram, and 5gb hard drive I believe......lol......Yes I know, really antique, but last week all was well, now all of a sudden problems......Besides buying a new computer.....no money.....how do I fix this particular problem......."Runtime error, Explorer.exe" right now Im on the net (obviously...lol) but the explorer/desktop items are shut down.

any ideas?

 

Welcome to The Major Geeks.First off do you have the latest Explorer IE6 installed? What are you running for virus control and firewall.

I have Internet explorer 6.0-128 bit, Avg 6.0, spybot, and ad-aware on my computer and run daily......

 

Have you tryed Repair yet,ControlPanel/Add/Remove etc.

 

Explorer.exe is the Windows Explorer and not Internet Explorer, which is Iexplore.exe.

Windows Explorer also controls the Windows 98 desktop hence no desktop icons. Do you know the run-time error number is details?

Yes thanks, I thought that was the difference, thats why I wondered why the previous reply was asking about which Internet explorer I was running.......

I wrote down all that I saw in regards to the runtime error as far as I can remember it didnt have any numbers? The label of the error did say Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library is that any help?.......lol

If I get the error again today I will be sure to note all numbers it shows.....sorry if I missed info that would help you to help

 

New twist........Just got an Illegal operation and shut down message on Explorer......Invalid fault page in Kernel32.dll at 0167:bff9db61.......does this help anything? What do I do about all these errors?

 

OK, now we know that it is Windows Explorer and not Internet Explorer...

I would suggest that you clear out any Adware and Spyware etc. by doing the following:

So, now what? any ideas? I have tried all I know, ran all adaware and got updates and ran again, ran spybot, scan disk, defrag, avg virus, drwatson, and Belarc to see what all is on my computer.....lol, plus all you listed
