Hello all -

This is my first post, so please excuse any breaches of etiquette.

I'm working my way through the cleaning tasks listed in "Read and Run Me First Before Asking for Support," and I've run into a couple of issues.

First, I had a problem trying to empty the norton protected recycle bin. I spent 6 (really) hours at symantec on-line support yesterday and the day before, with 8 different techies - none of whom knew anything about the protected recycle bin. Finally, the last guy told me the protected recycle bin only comes with norton systemworks. I have norton internet security 2006. Can anyone confirm whether this is true, or was he just trying to get rid of me? After the 6-hour ignorance festival I had to endure, I just don't trust them.

Second, I just installed and ran ccleaner (as user) a bit ago, but was unable to run it as administrator in safe mode as recommended. In safe mode, the desktop icon disappeared; nor could I launch it using "run." Any suggestions?

Hi

Its very possible you have one of Symantecs bundled software packages which comprise of Norton Internet Security and Systemworks, but to double check you actually have a Norton protected recycle bin, does it say in the text under the Bin "Norton Protected Recycle Bin" does it have a little shield N icon on the Bins icon .... plus check the below which is also the way to disable it if present.

Disable the Norton Protected Recycle Bin

as for CCleaner, run it in normal mode if you cannot run it in safe mode, to allow you to continue to the point where you can start generating the logs to attach, and then we can go from their.
