    Hi

    This is my first post.

I am trying to fix my friends laptop. It is fujitsu siemens with xp home edtion. 55gb hard drive with 500mb of ram.

I have found a number viruses and have succesfully removed them. The virus found was win32 cryptor and was found after my friend installed winpc antivirus (a fake antivirus program). The one thing that I cannot fix is that there was only one user account and windows used to boot straight onto the desktop. Since I sorted the virus problem the computer now boots to the welcome screen and shows both the user account along with the administrator account like it does in safe mode.

When I select the main user account (Not administrator) a number of things happen. When trying to perform certain actions I get the error message saying this service cannot be started in safe mode. Also when trying to install adaware I get the message saying that the administrator has set privelidges to not allow this type of installation. Also the antivirus installed on the computer is AVG free version and when this loads I get the message you can only use AVG antivirus command line scanner only in windows safe mode.

So therefore it seems that the computer is running in safe mode somehow and I don't know how to stop it. At no point does it say safe mode in the four corners of the screen like it does when you enter safe mode normally by pressing f8. Also when accessing windows update I cannot update anything as I get this error code: 0x8007043C

Please can anyone help me with this as I have been pulling my hair out for the last two days.

    Regards

    Richard

    Hi Guys

Thanks for the help. I have just tried to uninstall java and have got a message saying the installer service cannot be accessed. This can occur if you are running windows in safe mode or if the installer is correcty installed. I have tried installing the windows installer version 3.1 but it will not install as I have sp3 on this laptop. I managed to unistall AVG successfully.

    Help!!
