..running XPsp2 and IE6, and am satisfied that AdAware and Spybot have done their job. Earlier this week though I've gotten these .com popups where up til then I was getting none at all. They are Z1adserver, sbpch(publishers clearing house), isg09.casalemedia and 01nadserve...seems to be these same ones each time. Can someone comment or recommend what might zap them for good. Mostly I employ the Windows sp2 popup blocker and have Yahoo blocker. No popups for months til this week. Thanks :)

I'm confused by your message. Did Ad-Aware and Spybot do the job or not?

I have removed critical and negligible objects found by AdAware, and my latest Spybot scan is negative. Virus scan negative as well. CCleaner has been run. The incidence of the popups is random...I may get one when I open IE, or I may get one when I change web sites. Sometimes the aforementioned ads will pop up on top, sometimes they might lurk behind the browser window with a small taskbar alert. Interestingly enough I've begun using MSN Explorer for accessing websites and have no pop ups. But I'd like to finish off the ones appearing in IE if possible. One little trick I'm trying is to close the browser when the popup occurs, then restart the pc with the popup still displayed...haven't confirmed yet if this is effective. Is 100 percent avoidance of popups plausible, or are most users generally tolerant of the occasional popup? I know many users have more serious problems than I, but I've enjoyed learning much from Major Geeks and would like to defeat this little popup problem. Thanks again.

It all depends on whether these are malware related popups that occur at random or if they are popups that occur when you go to certain websites.

Do you get any popups while on MG's? You should not!

Where are you going when you get popups?
You could download and use FireFox. It also has a built in popup blocker.
If you think they are malware related and want to fix them, you should follow our standard procedures given below.

First, please follow ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal
If you already have any of the programs linked in the tutorial please double check your version to make sure you have the latest one and that you have any/all updates for the programs.

NOTE: In order to resolve the issues you are having it is very important that you at least try to perform all the steps as outlined. If you have any difficulty please post back letting us know what steps you have completed, what you found while doing the scans if anything and details about any problems you have encountered in completing the steps. The more details you can provide the better.

After doing ALL of the above if you still have a problem:

Make sure you have HijackThis 1.99 and follow the guidelines on where to install it and how to post a log as an attachment. This is all covered in the sticky thread NO HIJACK THIS LOG FILES BEFORE READING THIS: HJT Tutorial & LOG File Posting

Now post a HijackThis log as an attachment to your message (Do not post the log inline). All running programs should be closed, including your web browser, e-mail. Close before running Hijack This!

To repeat: Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file. Place it in its own folder, for example C:\Program Files\HJT
