Samsung Digital Flatscreen on the blink.... literally (help!)

In the past few days my Samsung SyncMaster 173T Flatscreen has begun blinking on and off when in the digital mode, however the analog mode seems unaffected. It's been flashing from a clear picture to a blank screen at continually increasing intervals.

Is it a problem with the monitor, the video card (NVidia GeForce FX 5200, 128MB), or the digital cable running running from the one to the other?

I've also just installed the most recent drivers for the video card and the monitor, to no relief.

Thanks, any help will earn you points with God.

Digitial or analog cable? If its an option, I would try a digital cable and see if it helps. Also, be sure that the dual monitor setup in your control panel display properties is properly setup to understand that your a single monitor, crt and nothing else. Control panel, display, advanced.

I'd first try a new cable. It sounds to me like that could be causing it. If it's not the cable and it works with an analog cable with the same computer and video card, then it's the monitor.

I have a digital cable running from the digitial port on the video card and a typical analog cable running from the analog port, both connect to my monitor and assumptivly I should be able to switch between them (but, you know what they say about assumption).

It's setup for monitor 1 of 2, but why is there even a dual monitor setup? Through my NVidia driver menu I tried to setup a single display (it's default is Clone 1 of 2), but that prohibits the digital from working altogether.

Also... and I find this pretty bizzare, I can only see video in the analog mode... for example if I'm watching Dukes of Hazard in a window in analog it looks fine, in digital mode things look the same (background, start menu, etc.), except the window showing the Dukes is blacker than a black steer's tucus on a moonless prairie night. Wtf?

    Could this be related?

...so irritating. I live in Mexico so it's not like I can just pop on over to my local Samsung distributor and have it exchanged... replacing the monitor on warranty will be a major pain in my asshole.

Unplug the Analogue cable and see what happens, then if no better plug in Analogue and unplug Digital.

Problem could be you have both plugged in.... IIRC only one of the connectiosn should be plugged in, be that Analogue or Digital.

    Update:

In my nVidia Setting Menu, under nView Display Settings -> Clone, I switched from "Samsung SyncMaster (1 of 2) + Samsung SyncMaster (2 of 2)" to "Samsung SyncMaster (2 of 2) + Samsung SyncMaster (1 of 2)" and this seems to have, at least temporarily, fixed the flickering problem in Digital Mode; plus I'm able to switch between the two modes.

I don't really understand why this worked, except the little icon next to "Samsung Syncmaster (2 of 2)" has the picture of a flatscreen and the other option's icon pictures a regular monitor.

Seems stupid, but it's working.... so why knock it.

because you have two cables on your video card, so your computer thinks you have two monitors ... probably the reason you have had this problem .. like halo said disconnect the analog, you have no reason to have it connected

I do it because I can.

    *sinister cackle*

So... before when I was switching between analog and digital, I was really just switching between analog and analog? That wasn't really my idea....

Shouldn't it be able to switch between the analog port and the digital port without acting like a little bitch? I mean... it's an eff'n computer!

See... I can't just have one or the other, I must have BOTH! Why? Because I'm a geek.

(If now that I've "fixed" it, it's switching between digital and digital, when it "says" it's switching between digital and analog, heads will roll. Don't worry. Not your heads)

my samsung synchmaster 244t monitor is haunted. the buttons on the front don't work, and the screen will start blinking, then randomly start resetting itself - changing brightness settings, and display modes. the driver is up to date and the monitor works well, it just acts haunted... s'up wit dat??? :[:cry
