Samsung R40 sound loss/Network sharing centre not resp

Hi to over the pond!!

Im Steve aka Catgroom (my job is that I groom Persian Cats)

I have multiple probs all of a sudden with my Samsung R40 Notebook.Im runninag Windows Vista Home Basic.I hope someone can help me...

Firstly,the Network and Sharing Centre does not respond.Meaning,I can bring the window up but it wont respond to my mouse whatsoever.

Secondly,the sound has died at the same point that the Network Centre has stopped responding.

Thirdly,Windows Defender has turned itself off.It wont let me switch it back on.All it does is search for updates then tells me its all up to date.Hmmmm..

Im stuck now,and at the end of my non-high knowledge fountain;-)
