I have a Samsung SSD that I recently formatted and installed Windows 7 64 bit on. I tried to use Samsung Magician software but it tells me that "Magician cannot communicate with the below Samsung SSD. Please check with other compatible storage drivers and try again. 1. Samsung SSD 840 EVO (etc)"

Upon some investigation, it appears this is because the SSD is listed as SCSI in device manager. I was wondering if there were any way to fix this so that the Samsung Magician software can communicate with the SSD

    HI

What Motherboard make and model are you using and what controller do you have the SSD plugged into as if its the Marvell (JMicron ones can also cause this) controller then that maybe your issue as at times the Marvell controller will list in Windows a SATA drive as SCSI, pita!!

So if you can swap the SSD into a Intel controller then that should fix the issue, just make sure that the drive is listed in the BIOS and as 1st boot device.

Are you running in the BIOS RAID Mode and if so that could also be a source of the issue. Really need to be if not running RAID to be in ACHI mode in the BIOS.

This is a Dell computer XPS 720 so I have very limited options for the SATA controllers i.e. Off, On, and RAID. It is currently set on On. I believe the motherboard is nForce 680i.

I'd like to note that when I first got the SSD (Samsung), I cloned over my operating system drive from a smaller capacity SSD (Intel) that I was using at the time. It was a 32 bit copy of W7 and Samsung Magician software had no problem reading the Samsung drive. However, I recently reformatted and installed the 64 bit W7 and now I am having this issue. I didn't change the controller the Samsung SSD was plugged into when transitioning from the 32 to 64 W7.
