I have a Dell XPS 400 that had a HDD failure. Replaced the bad drive with a WD 320gb SAS drive, installed the OS (Windows Media Player Ed) from the CD Drive. All was well. Then I attempted to use the failed drive as a 2nd HDD to try and get some of my data off of it. The OS never recognized it so I disconnected the data cable, rebooted to Windows. Now the CD drive will not read any media placed in it. I'm looking for some help in getting the functionality back. Both the BIOS and the OS see the drive but it won't read anything. Help!!

Unplug the power cord from your PC every time you open the case. Try disconnecting all the cables from your CD drive and boot into Windows. Now shut down the PC, remove the power cord, re-connect the CD drive, and start up again. Sometimes this will 'reset' the drive and OS. Have you tried booting from the CD? If you can boot from it, then it's not a drive problem....
