Bought a 750 Gig Samsung SATA 11 and after installing Windows recognised it NP. i used Partition Magic and that is where the problems have stemmed from. Made a partition and on reboot HD showing as BAD in Admin Tools and no partition showing. To cut a very long story short I used Samsung Diagnostic tools and have performed a lengthy in depth Format. Now this drive is to be used as storage and is in addtition to a Stripe Array 2x250 gig seagate Baracuda which are working fine. When I boot with the 3 drives connected and the Stripe activated I see No Samsung 750 gig anywhere in the Bios/Computer & Amin Tools .. Uncheck the Stripe Array in Bios and there it is listed (the 750 GIg) But of course I cannot boot until the Stripe is activated as that is where the OS is,, and of course the consequence of doing that is that the 750 Gig is no longer visible. Insert the SAMSUNG Diagnostic disk and it has no trouble finding it... My question is could have Partition Magic written something on the Samsung disk that is preventing windows from recognising it. Also I deleted MBR on that disk.. and have tried just about every combination in BIOS settings to no avail :confused

Further update:- I unchecked the Striped Array whch enabled me to access the Samsung and installed another Vista on there succesfully but still on reactivating the Stripe Array, The Samsung is still not Visible anywhere, this one has really got me going.. :cry

Ongoing report. I have now managed to access the Samsung by way of unplugging the Stripe and leaving the 2 EIDE HD's connected with the Samsung Sata this then allowed me to use the Vista disc to repair which it failed to do, but, it has now given me a Partition Table Report which says that 'The Boot Configuration is Corrupt' Error Code = 0X490. So fellow Geeks is there a way I can access/delete/format, In the Old days A Windows ME Boot Disk inserted would allow me to FDisk, have tried that but com will not boot from floppy. Is there any way I can Fdisk this Samsung thus deleting the Partition ??? P.S. Taking into account the only way I can access the SAMSUNG is by way of what I said at the begining of this post.

The computer won't boot from floppy????
Does the MB not support ME?
Find an older computer and Fdisk the drive in that.

Thanx for reply GenHawk2 ;) I had thought of that but so far cannot find an old com with SATA connection but you are thinking on the same lines as me.. On the brighter side I have seen some software called 'Partition Table Doctor' this repairs the Master Boot Record, partition table, and the boot sector of the partition with an error, so. if all else fails shall have to purchase a copy,so all is not lost. Will keep trying to find a solution to FDisk and am going to try right now a Dareks 'Boot & Nuke' depending on mobo recognising the HD. Will post results.

Hi again, Since my last post I have been working on the prob as follows. I used 'Partition Table Doctor' that couldn't seem to fix anything which was taking 9 hours per try but I did find a way for comp to recognise it so I came up with the idea of loading an OS on there and then try another partition which was succesful all round. I then hitched up a Pata drive which was OK then added another and OK so now I am getting happy so I connected the other 2 SATA's and they were recognised but as soon as I enabled the Stripe of these 2 away went the 750 Gig Samsung. I have tried just about every setting there is in the Bios to no avail. When the stripe is not enabled the Samsung shows as EIDE Channel 5 Master the 3 and 4 are the unstriped Sata's. So I am have just about exhausted every setting that I can do. Any suggestions plz Geeks ?? P.S. as I said in first post the Samsung 750 was recognised Ok before the initial Partition was attempted. :confused

Just to add more confusion, and hopefully this may point to a solution or the overall problem is that I uninstalled the Vista from the SAMSUNG SATA 11 750 GB and installed XP Pro. Now on boot with the other 2 SATA 1 Unstriped i have all drives showing as 'Mass Storage' and in Disk Manager there is a phantom drive showing. Disk Manager shows.....

    DISK 0 C:44.34 GB & 654.30 GB ... (this is the SAMSUNG.)

    DISK 1 unallocated 232.88 GB

    DISK 2 H: 34.18 GB & J:436.59 GB (I assume this is the 2 x 250 WD unstriped)

considering the 2 striped add up to 500 GB could DISK 1 be half of that stripe although as I said they are not (striped) activated in BIOS. :confused

Have been doing alot of reading simce last post and may have a solution but first here's an update. Went back to square one and Formatted (in depth slow) used Partion Table Doctor and created new par table and MBR . Loaded Vista then used paragon Partition Magic to create 2 partions and all is well as far as that goes, which brings me to the Boot when the Stripe on other HD's are initiated. Looking in here ..........
http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/27 I picked up on speed transfers. Now the Samsung in Boot Dos screen shows as LBA ATA 133 so that means transfer rate is that of a PATA not the higher speed as a SATA 11 should be 150 mb or 300 mb. Following this article it led me to ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976... part of which says During the Windows Vista installation process, any unused storage drivers are disabled. This behavior speeds up the operating system's startup process. When you change the boot drive to a driver that has been disabled, you must enable the new driver before you change the hardware configuration. have looked in my registry and the setting is (4) not (0) So do you think this is worth a try as I will obviously backup the Regisrty ??? PS. I am not getting the Error Message but could this be one of the same problem.
