SATA HD, SATA ENCLOSURE, not starting for some reason.

Just got a SATA HD and a SATA ENCLOSURE and all connected via USB I hear the hard drive in there start up but the computer does not pop up a new hardware thing.

Being new to SATA I didn't see a Master/Slave. Can you tell me about this? Being new to SATA and very familiar with IDE I always see the two different slots to connect a hard drive to the computer. I see the two for SATA but I see there is only one connector in the enclosure to connect the hard drive to, the bigger slot. Is this supposed to be? Please help me.

Scrap what I said, the second part. I learned some stuff since then. But everything I hook up correctly and tried different USB ports and even installed drivers from the little CD it came with and still will not see/recognize new hardware at all.

I guess you need to partition and format the drive.

Right-click (My) Computer > Manage > Disk management

 

Yes but to do that it actually has to be seen, recognized first, right? The computer-ji is not finding the device anywhere, that is the problem.

 

Maybe the controller board is faulty or is earthing out onto the casing - it happens.

Pull the drive and connect it to a PC.

Connect the external drive to a 2nd PC.

EDIT - earthing = grounding

 

I wonder. I wish I could hook it up directly to a PC. I would of done that but I believe my PC is IDE only that is why I got the SATA HD and SATA enclosure.

 

I just found out the cause of my problem.

 

I am having a similar issue can you tell me how you solved yours?
