Sata HDD problem

Hi guys,
I hope someone has a solution for this one. I have XP pro and the problem is with an Maxtor 6Y12OMO Sata 80g HDD. My OS is on this HDD in its own partition. Every time I reboot, it goes right to Scandisk/error check, it finds data in bad sectors on the non-OS partition (but only runs thru the first 3 steps) then boots fine. I tried defragging, but it says a Error check has been scheduled so it wont defrag. I ran a full Error check (all 5 steps) but the problem persists. There is nothing in Scheduled tasks and I hope the drive isn't going bad as it's only a year old or so. Thanks in advance for any help.

 

If yuo wanna try disabling Scandisk:
Start> Run > msconfig

Once you run msconfig, click on the advanced button at the bottom, and check "disable scan disk after bad shutdown"

I will try that and report back. Do you think there are HDD issues though that cause this during normal shutdows/reboots?

 

I checked there but there is no Advanced tab there.

 

oops that method was for Win98 here is the mthod to disable it in Xp.

Disabling Chkdsk - Windows 2000 and XP
1. Run the Registry Editor (regedt32.exe)
2. Under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE subtree, go to the following subkey:
\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager
3. Change the BootExecute entry to:
autocheck autochk *
Exit your registry, you may need to restart or log out of Windows for the change to take effect.

Make a backup of yor registry as a precaution .

 

Thanks Blades, but there is no BootExecute under session manager. Very strange.

 

Anyone else have any ideas?
