robertbiferi I can't follow the rules

I have two sata 2. hard drives in my computer and I copy file from one drive to the other.

The are both secandary Drives and when I copy files from one to the other I don't think they are moving data that fast.

So I got the program called HDtune and ran a teast on the drives.
The data transfer rate was 133 MB

This is the speed that iDE drives could go up to why is my sata2 drives getting the same speed as an iDE?

    My motherboard has Hypertransport 3.0

Check your motherboard BIOS to see what mode you have the SATA channels running in.
And if AHCI is turned on. Though I have worked on a couple systems with SATA drives (not SSDs) where having AHCI turned on actually caused hard disc issues and turning it off had the systems running fine.

    Hi

Theoretical maximum speeds are rarely achieved they are what the max can be bit they do not take into account the overheads taken up by other hardware/software, thus slowing the I/O speeds down, HDDs dont tend to hit near the max transfer speeds SSDs can as they do not have rotation or read/write heads to slow the process down. I use SSDs and get a transfer average speed of 501mb/s HERE

What is your Windows version and Service Pack?
Hypertransport 3.0 is a specification and not a motherboard, so what is the make and model of your motherboard (eg, ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 etc)?

What file format type do you have these drives formatted in Fat32 or NTFS?
Are all your drivers up to date? check Device Manager for this.
Check in your BIOS if you have the option to enable 32bit data Transfer.
Check in Device Manager on the Storage Controller/s that the correct setting of UDMA Mode 6.

I have a SATA II (1TB) drive that gives that sort of speed from HDTune but in reality its not slow when transferring files, in the main it depends on what size files you are transferring and what Windows version you are using as some are better at data transfer than others. Security software can also slow data transfer down as they are scanning the files as you are transferring them, so larger files take longer to scan.

I have an ECS Mothrboard and all my sata2 drives are being seen as iDE.

I have win xp pro and when I installed it I did not install the sata drivers so the BiOS just puts them under iDE.

    Can this be why?
