Saving A Program

Discussion in 'Software' started by owen.family@usfamily.net, Jan 28, 2013.

  1. Hi All

Just wondering if there is some way to save a program that I have on my Dell XP SP3 machine, when I no longer can find the CD that came with the hardware.

Years back I used to have a flatbed scanner that had a very nice (for me anyhow) scanning program.
Some time ago the scanner quit and I apparently tossed the CD that contained the software. I know I could go online and get the upgraded software, but I am very happy with this version, and as so often happens, the upgrades are not always an improvement.

Anyhow, I need to reinstall my OS, but want to keep the scanning software, if I can. Is there some way that I can do this?

    Any help will be appreciated.

The software is PaperPort, I can't recall the version number, but I want to keep this if there is a way to do so.

    Thanks.

    Mr. C

The problem that you will have is duplicating any registry settings the software made when it was installed. So generally speaking you'll need the install media and go through the install process on your new os.

If that is your email address, maybe not a good idea to post it. Spam you know...

Maybe a Mod can arrange to have that changed...

Open the PaperPort program, click help and tell us the version number.

  6. Yes, thanks. It was our address when I first signed up years ago, but not any more. Just the same, I did try to have it changed but if I recall correctly, I was told I would have to rejoin, and at the time I didn't care to go through the hassle.
I'll maybe check it out further when I get through this situation.

  7. Hi.
The version is: PaperPort 7.02.01.0002 Deluxe.

  8. Thank you.
I checked that version out, and will keep it in mind, but mine is 7.xx, that one is 8.xx.
It was priced reasonably I suppose, but seeing as I am very happy with the ver. I have I hate to (read: can't really) spend anything more.
I have wondered though...in the likely event that I end up having to some day upgrade to Win 7 or 8 or something, I imagine my ver. of PP may not work any longer...?

I thought I might have been able to help but my disk is version 6.1.

    Greetings, owen.family@usfamily.net...

According to Nuance the latest PaperPort version supported by Windows 7 is ver. 11 SE or newer -- PaperPort ver. 14 is required for Windows 8.
