Saving Pics Help

I have a problem where each time i turn on my computer and try to save a picture from a website, it will only save the pics as a BMP, when normally it would save as a JPG. I went to microsofts website, and followed their instructions, which said to delete temp internet files. It does work, however if i turn the computer off and on again, it once again goes back to saving them as BMPs. Also, when i try to delete temp internet files, windows explorer freezes and says program not responding. I think the 2 problems are related. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

 

I'm not sure I fully understand you. Are you saying you're saving pictures from within internet explorer? Because when you do that, it will save the image as whatever it is on the site. If the site posted a bmp you'll have a bmp, if they posted a jpg it will be a jpeg. None of the browsers on the market can convert an image from one format to another. Mainly because there is absolutely no reason for a browser to have such a feature.

It could happen that a jpg file is given a bmp extension. Of course, even if that occured it wouldn't actually matter. The format would still be recognized by an iamge program just fine, and still be displayed, also it doesn't effect the size of the image since it would just be a naming issue. More over, you could simply rename it to jpg if you wanted and there wouldn't be a problem.

 

There is a bug where sometimes ALL image file types that are downloaded are only able to be saved ad BMP (extension, not conversion). Clearing temp files should fix it but he's having a further issue where it comes back on reboot.

The only thing I can think of is maybe change your temp directory to some other location and try again.
