Saving to the desktop

I've tried looking this up online, and just as many people say yes as they do say no, so I'm trying to find a difinitive answer. Does saving large files(pics and movies, etc) directly to the desktop, or in a folder directly on the desktop slow a computer down?

I ask this because my computer at work is extremely slow. It's got like a 20 minute boot up. I've removed all start up programs(except essentials) using ccleaner, done all the ccleaner cleanup stuff, defragged, anti virus, anti malware scans, etc, and the computer is still really slow. I happened to notice the person who usually uses it was saving all kinds of pictures to a folder that's on the desktop. So many, in fact, that when I went to move the folder off the desktop, it was a 90 minute process to move them all.

Also, if I go to Run -> Dxdiag, it says 256 ram, and 304 of 350mb in paging file used, with only our warehouse management program(which I'm told uses few resources) and a signature capture program(so customers can sign for their orders when they pick them up) running. That's why I thought maybe the massive amounts of pictures on the desktop might be slowing things down and eating up the RAM.

And advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

I have found that keeping stuff on the desktop does slow windows down, and a complete folder of pictures , with only 256 mb of ram will, I am sure be slow to load, as windows needs to load that folder!
I would move them all to the pictures folder, personally, or, get more ram.
    - older versions, like windows 98, me, are not as ram intensive, Xp will run o.k on 256, but will run better, but a little faster on more ram .
    Are you running XP ?
gOT TO GO, FOOTBALL STARTING, BACK LATER.
