    Hello,

    win xp sp2 32-bit, kaspersky IS 2012

my antivirus returns clean results. however, i'd like to know what other powerful scanners (please recommend) see. also i need someone to take a look at the logs and confirm.

    Thank you.

Did you run the READ & RUN ME FIRST because that is what we recommend.

    What logs?

thank you chaslong for the reply. yes i read he post. i was hoping i'd get a confirmation that the programs recommended don't conflict with kapspersky before running them. i take it thy don't?

i mean the logs from the programs after running them.

basically i was calling for an attendant.

i'll be back shortly. meanwhile, after the purpose of installing those programs is exhausted, how can i uninstall them from my pc (including he registry)?

Your logs are clean other than possibly the below file pointed out by Hitman Pro.

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\mnt.exe

I have no real proof that it is malware. It is just deemed suspicious. It could be for something you run.

The only real problem to your security that I see is the fact that you have not installed your updates to Windows. This is much more of a risk than you may think. You are running Windows XP SP2. You need to update to SP3 and get all the other Windows updates too. By April this year, support for Win XP will stop! You need to get your updates now!

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

thank you so much chaslang. i've been wondering about the mnt.exe too. i installed a fresh xp sp2 just 2 days ago. so i don't have many programs running. i googled mnt.exe and there were no results for it. how can i tell to which software it belongs?

i've just upgraded to sp3 yesterday.

    You'r welcome.

Probably a reason why your logs are all clean.

It has a file from 2010.
    Code:

    5,632 2010-01-13 21:00:42 C:\WINDOWS\system32\mnt.exe

It has no properties info to explain what it is from. It is probably not an issue, but you could scan it at virustotal.com if you wish to double check.
