Scandisk runs every time I reboot. Why?

Everytime I reboot the computer, Scandisk runs because "an improper shutdown was detected". Even though all I'm doing is clicking on restart. I searched google and found that on some 98/ME systems Scandisk does this because it's shutting down too fast and the fix for it is to disable fast shutdown through msconfig. Number one, it just started doing this a week ago, I've never had this problem before and number two, even if this is the case, I don't see the option to disable fast shutdown (and why would it start doing this all of a sudden?).

I read on another forum (fourth post down by Bane) that a guy was having this problem and did some fancy computer stuff that's beyond me and found out that his boot sector was screwed up and did some more fancy stuff to fix it.

How can I tell what's causing it and what to do to fix it?

    Thanks for the help.

Do you have an Bootable CD or Floppy ?

    If Yes
    Boot through the Floppy/CD
    Chose the Dos Prompt
Type C: or the Drive Letter in which the OS is installed
    Hit Enter
Then Type CD Windows < Enter >
Then Type CD Command < Enter >
    Then Type Scanreg/restore < Enter >
Then it will give you 3 Dates
    Chose the Latest One
    < Enter >
    < Enter >
    The System will restart
This is a kind of system restore that is better than the Windows Me Inbuilt (GUI) system restore.

This should probably fix the problem since you state that this is happening from just a week

Could not edit the previous log becoz of time limit

How ever if that does not work or you do not have the right dates

    then you can try

    1. Start > Run > type regedit.exe
    2. Locate and click the following key in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
    3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
    4. Type CacheWriteDelay to name the new value, and then press ENTER.
    5. Right-click the CacheWriteDelay value, and then click Modify.
    6. Under Base, click Decimal.
    7. In the Value data box, type 2000, and then click OK.
    8. Quit Registry Editor.
    9. Shut down and restart the computer. Permit Windows to finish running ScanDisk and wait for the Windows desktop to appear. Then, shut down and restart the computer again to determine if ScanDisk runs at startup.

Try booting into SAFE mode, then shutdown. That can fix some problems.

Thank you all for the help. Hardmarkerin's second fix did it for me.

Can anyone tell me why it was doing that and what editing the registry did?

    Thanks again everybody.
