Scanner problem??

I have an HP Officejet Pro 8500 A910, which I thought was supposed to be a pretty good scanner. Photos and documents scan well, and we have never had a problem and are very satisfied with the copy, fax, scan capabilities........BUT, I tried to scan a simple coin yesterday, and this is what I got

even though that's a photo, you can see that the scanner image is not clear at all, and should be much clearer. I've tried to find some adjustments I can make, but besides brightness and contrast and dpi adjustments, nothing seems to work. Any suggestions? Thanks. Ed.

I know - it's a counterfeit penny.

Sorry - couldn't resist. I got to tell you - I've been working with computers for for over 40 years and I don't believe I've ever run into a penny-scanning problem (I have heard of penny-scamming, though). Who said there's nothing new under the sun?

No suggestions - I apologize. I just want to monitor this thread for any solutions you might find. Good luck!

 

Try placing a piece of white paper behind the coin. What you have now is too close to the actual color of the coin and the hardware of the scanner is trying to compensate for that. White paper would give it something that it's used too.
