Friend of mine has many files that are corrupted on a flashdrive that came from abroad. It's a POS, but is there an easy way to scan for corrupted files and have a list of corrupted disaplyed, or does he have to go through each file one by one to see whether it's alright or not? (There are LOADS of files..sigh)

    Thanks

    Hi Em

Not come across any app that would scan and list corrupted files for you to delete over ok files, could try a file recovery app like Recuva to see if they can be recovered, if not its the painstaking job od checking them all.

I'm not sure if this would work or not since I don't have any corrupt files on hand. And also unnecessary if Halo's suggestion works. But what about using "xcopy"? Hopefully "xcopy" won't be able to copy the corrupted files.

Create a "junk" folder on the harddrive, say "C:\junk", or on an external drive "E:\junk"?

then from the command console type:

    xcopy x:\ c:\junk\ /E /Y /C /F >c:\junk\xlist.txt

Where the letter "x" is the letter assigned to the flash drive by the system and the "c:\junk\" is the name of the folder you created for this little excursion. The ">c:\junk\xlist.txt" is the file that will be created containing the output list of everything "xcopy" managed to copy.

While you're in the command console, type:

    tree x: /A /F >c:\junk\treelist.txt

Now you have a list of everything(hopefully) that is supposed to be on the flash drive and two lists to compare.
