maybe there's a better version of the software you use to translate from the scan to a word document?

I'm sure that was a goof on Halo's part. At any rate, the scanner is irrelevant, this is a limitation of your OCR software. The answer? Try some different software, or see if there is an update for it.

Its possible. All the scanner is doing is outputting what it sees. If this only happens when trying to convert it to a editable text, then the scanner doesn't play a part in it anymore. Then its up to the OCR program to convert it accurately. The problem is, if the program isn't accurate, or if the document has a smudge, blemish or symbol it can't identify, thats when errors come up.

I haven't used OCR much, but I can tell you when I have, there has always been a few errors.

Some programs perform better than others, which is why it isn't a bad idea to try a few different ones, to get a different outlook on the issue.
