Scanning problems

Seems like I've been here before! Have a Visioneer 9220 flatbed scanner which has taken to giving me wierd scans. I've followed every suggestion I could find on their website (which isn't saying much!) to no avail. It's not producing an image for most of the sheet, and what it does produce is very red in tint. If I let it scan a blank white sheet it looks fine (no color streaks, etc). A plain black sheet produces utter chaos with lots of red and yellow streaking. Has anyone else come across this? It started suddenly. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the scanner drivers along with the PaperPort software - - - 3 times. And, as you probably know, Visioneer is no place to look for problem resolution. Especially since it's out of warranty. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I could attach a screen-shot of a scan if it would help.
