I have tried scanning my system with a few different types of malware removers, and have also tried using the malware removal guide posted in your support forum, but scans always freeze when they come to certain windows32 files, so I never get much further. Please help if you can! I've never had an issue this major that I couldn't fix on my own. :(

    I am running Vista 32-bit OS on a Dell XPS M1530 with 4GB RAM Intel Core2 Duo T7700 @ 2.40 Ghz processor.

Hello, suevitabella and "Welcome To Major Geeks".

Please describe in detail the problems you are having and how long ago they started. Think about what you were doing at the time. Was any malware found in your regular scans with your anti-virus program? What made you suspect that your pc might be infected?

You stated you were trying to run our malware removal guide, please refer to these below tips and continue:

    Thank You,

About 7 weeks ago my computer started freezing randomly, whether I was checking my Outlook e-mail, web browsing, using MS Word, Excel, etc., PhotoShop or any other software on my computer. I would try Ctrl-Alt-Delete to get to the Task Manager, but I couldn't even get that to come up. Only thing I could do was hold down the power button. I thought it was Outlook freezing things up, so I started to not use Outlook and went back to web-based e-mail. That did not solve my problem. I have Norton Internel Security on my computer and I tried to run a full scan of my computer and that was when I first noticed it freezing on a file called eventlog.etl in Windows\System32\NDF. I tried running it several times with no luck. I also tried running the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool, Trend Micro House Call (web based version), Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, and SUPER AntiSpyware. There are other System32 files that scans seem to freeze on including nddeapi.dll, but that is the only one I can think of at the moment (I'd have to run it and have it freeze up on me.)

There are two things I did prior to having this problem. I flashed the bios as recommended by Dell per the Dell Support Center on my computer and I started using Facebook. I'm guessing the most likely culprit is some crap Facebook application that friends sent me that I thought were harmless since they didn't get installed in my computer, guess I was wrong.

I finally got most of the utilities to run after trying many times in normal and in safe mode and got the logs saved. The event viewer was one of the first things I looked at when I noticed things happening and nothing was in there. Almost every time my computer freezes it wants to run check disk at boot, so that has been run numerous times. Should I still post my logs here, or should I post in the forum you suggested?

I noticed in Spybot S&D it is freezing specifically when it is checking for Zlob.Downloader.rid every single time, I don't know if that's a coincidence or not. That is the one particular step on your list that it is still freezing on, otherwise after numerous tries over the past couple of days, I finally got the other ones to successfully run.

    :(

I'm sorry to report that your problems are not malware but most likely hardware related. The only items of concern would be to caution you about putting sites into your Trusted Zones.
If a site you have in your Trusted Zones was hacked, you would have low defenses against getting infected.

Please start a new thread in the Hardware Forum and describe your problems there and include a link to this thread.

    Good Luck!
