scheduling a program to run every weekday

I wish to manually schedule a program to run everyday at 4am on my ubuntu 12.04 system.

The program is installed via wine and I am failing at using cron. The program is linked via shortcut on my desktop but whenever I try to run the command shown in the short cut I get an error about it not loading a preference file.

Here is the command the short cut has:

env WINEPREFIX="/home/reddeath/.wine" wine C:\\jagexlauncher\\jagexlauncher\\bin\\JagexLauncher.exe runescape

As I said I would like this to run every weekday (mon-friday) at 4am.


I am having no luck as I am a linux nub so all help and maybe detailed explination would be appreciated thank you very much in advance for all help.

I will check it out but as I said I wish to do it manually not with a program for experience and learning purposes mostly.

I see Runescape for Jagerxlauncher. Is this what you are trying to run? :confused

This Ubuntu Forum user solved this by changing Java in Wine.

 

yes it is what I am trying to run the client has a self contained version of java my main thing is I am unsure how to run a wine installed program using cron

 

i can understand newbie reluctance with the command line interface (terminal), although it becomes less "scary" with familiarity. Until familiar, here's a tutorial for the CronTab GUI. Hope this is more helpful...

I will try the program since its all very new to me in the mean time is there a way to see what commands the program sends? that way I can use the program will still learning the interface?

 

cron is a process.

Remember BASIC programming where GOTO sent you to each line?

You are now telling the system to perform certain tasks on a regular basis. The same as if you had commands in a text document to perform the tasks. Here are some examples of CRON programming.

What I am wanting to do is this exactly:

I have a client installed for runescape through the wine emulator.

I want to use cron to run this program from wine every weekday (mon-fri) at 3am.

and looking for help doing this via the terminal in linux(ubuntu 12.04) because I very inexperienced in linux terminal.

yes my main problem here is i do not know how to call a program installed via wine using cron. as wine as far as I understand runs things in a virtual harddrive set up like a windows drive.
