i have been looking at a new gas powered scooter to buy (for around $500) and i have found these two:

    http://www.x-tremescooters.com/gas_scooters/xg550/xg550.html

    buy it here: http://www.advancedelectricscooters.com/gas-scooters/xg550/xg550.html

    and

    http://www.goped.com/products/sport/default.asp

i posted on 4chan, and i got a general reply that gopeds are superior, and xtreme scooters is some cheap chinese brand that i should stay away from, but the xg550 seems to have far more superior specs for less money.

does anyone here have any experience with goped scooters? it comes down for me to either a small foldable scooter or a large powerful scooter. but shouldnt the small foldable scooter not cost more? unless it is of much more superior quality than the xtreme scooter brand...

    thanks!

meh, why not get a proper bike, believe me scooters are not as much fun as a real bike, you can't lean in to the corners as much, the driving position is weird like sitting on a chair basically..... I agree with 4chaners if they say you shouldn't buy some chinese brand, that thing will probably fall apart in an instant.
Say hello to anon from me will you ? :D

Im selling my bike and also considering a scooter. In Florida, its a better fit for around town, you dont want to be doing 50 MPH with all the senior citizens. Plus just to run to the store, etc it might be nice. I ride my Segway, but not a lot of room for stuff. I would go electric, no gas to add or run out, oil changes and so on. Thats just me :)

Let me know how you make out Speculant, the nices ones are expensive and the Chinese ones scare me. I would go for price and reputation, but would look for used ones with low miles.

well actually this is quite an old thread, what i ended up doing is buying a used (but still in very good condition, actually the body was used but the engine was brand new) GTR trail ripper from someone on www.gopednation.com forums. here is a link to the scooter i have now: http://www.goped.com/products/gtr/default.asp

its actually more like a dirtbike than a transportation scooter, but i use it sometimes to go to and from work. Im planning to put the stock muffler on it (right now it has a pipe on it, which is REALLY loud) and then attach an additional silencer to the stock muffler.

goped (its a USA based company) makes really good electric scooters, but probably not the kind you're looking for...probably this web article will provide you with some insight: http://www.treehugger.com/files/2008/06/7-best-electric-scooters-prototypes-production-models.php (im guessing that the kind of scooter you're looking for is the first model listed on the page). you would probably have to search around on google to find some good usa based electric scooter companies.
