Screen savers and Win7X64

I recently installed Win7 Home Premium X64 clean. Not an upgrade; a clean install on a new 750gb drive. When I was still running WinXP, I could drag a shortcut to a screensaver to the quick-launch bar, and launch it on-demand. I run Windows with screen savers disabled (I always have) but I like being able to start a screen saver with a single click if I want one. In Win7 X64, the screen saver starts OK if I create a desktop shortcut, but the mouse pointer stays visible. For some reason, I'm not allowed to add a screen saver to the quick-launch bar. :confused I've tried a bazillion times, but I get the red-circle-with-a-red-diagonal-bar symbol. Any ideas on how to get an 'on demand' screen saver in Win7X64?
    Thanks!

    1. there is no such thing as a quick launch bar in Windows 7. It is now an application bar that you can pin programs to.

    2. Some programs, like control panel, are blocked from being pinned to the taskbar for some unknown reason.

I'm sorry, but I can't elaborate more than this as windows 7 has new systems that I am not too familiar with yet.

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

Following up on collinsl - maybe copy/paste the ssaver to another folder, one that's not system protected...might even try renaming it, maybe?

    Hi dlb! :)

Can you give me a link to a screen saver file that is safe to download? I want to be able to test things out on my own.

There is a guy who is trying to design an app that allows folders to be dragged to the application bar in Win 7. I'm not 100% happy with it for my purposes but wonder if it might work for you. Try the .16 version. If you point it to a folder with just screen savers it will be only two clicks to activate your screen saver.

There are quirks in the app but I'm trying to figure out exactly what would improve it. If you try it for screensaver purposes maybe we can figure out what it is that is making it not quite right.

Jeeez... semantics. You are correct. It is no longer called the "quick launch" bar, it is now called the "task bar" but it essentially the exact same thing. I'm sure the Win7 task bar has extra features (besides the VERY handy previews), but it is basically the same as ye olde quick launch bar.
Yup. check out the screen savers at this link. I have used them all with both WinXP and Win7 and they work perfect, and are 100% clean from adware/malware, and they are visually excellent!!! Folks with low-end onboard video may have issues with some/most of these screen savers, and they may not run real well with basic video cards.
