How do I get a screen shot of a movie playing in Windows Media Player?

Whenever I try to just hit "PrintScreen" and paste the image into Photoshop, the image will display the movie playing rather than just giving me a still of how my screen looked.

It's sort of hard to explain. If you know how to get a screen shot to work then you will probably know what I'm talking about.

I've never done it,, but can you hit pause in WMP, then screenshot it?

I thought I could. The thing is that when I paste the image into Photoshop it doesn't capture what is on the screen. Instead it appears to just point to the video playing in Windows Media Player. The movie just keeps playing in the screenshot. Try it yourself and see what happens.

    I've tried Paint too.

I'm using Screenprint 32, as I don't have printscreen key on my little indestructible rollup keyboard.

I can't get it to capture a still shot from a video.:(

Try using something like Windows Movie Maker and break the file up into clips and take a screen shot of the clip.

Grab yourself XnView ( its free ) and as well as being a multi format graphic tool its able to capture screens.

Just goto Tools > Capture then pause the video pic and hit F11 and the screen will be captured then you can crop the image from within XnView. ( I have tested it with WMP9 and a movie clip and it captures it OK )

The program didn't work for me, Halo. It is a really cool program though; I think that I am going to keep it around for a bit and play with it.

I've got WMP9 installed with all the updates from Microsoft. I'm running XP Home. I've tried pasting into Photoshop and Paint. I've tried taking a screenshot, pasteing it into a program, then taking a screenshot of that.

    I'm stuck.

The only way I know of to do this is to open up the video in a video editor (Adobe Premiere) and export the frame as an image.

i'm not sure if VirtualDub allows you to do it or not.
