    I have 2 problems

    1. I have 2 identicle Fujitsu MAS3367NP SCSI 37Gig Hard Drives. The one containing the operating system boots up fine, but windows won't recognize the second. The first has an ID of 0, the second has an ID of 1. When I go to Device Manager, it says both drives are working fine. Device Manager also tells me there are 37 gigs of unallocated space on the second drive. Drivers have been updated. 2 SCSI connectors on the ribbon arent plugged into anything, and The SCSI ribbon plugs directly into the motherboard. I have tried taking the second drive out, changing its ID to 0, inserting it back into the machine while leaving the "good" drive out and booting up, but it says there is no hard drive present when i boot.

    2. My motherboard also has an IDE connector. I want to run my OS off of my SCSI drive, and use an IDE drive for storage. Again, windows wont recognize that the drive is there when i plug it in and boot up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Umm.. I had this type of trouble before adding a third HD and was messed about for days, it was only when I had unknowingly coupled up one of my fans with the power lead that was going to the HD that I noticed that the fan was not working. I had a dodgy power lead, have you checked that ?? and seeing that you can get the master to work have a look here..and you could check the slave out.. http://www.scsimechanic.com/eval_version_download.htm

The power runs fine through all devices. I downloaded the SCSI Mechanic as you suggested, ran it, and found no errors on the drive.

Umm again.. Normally when a drive is not recognised in Windows its because it hasn't been Formatted, has it ??

You were right. All it needed was formatting. Everything seems to be in order now. Thanks. Any suggestions for my second problem? I'd like to have my operating system on one drive, run my applications from the other drive, an use an IDE drive just for storage and back up.

I'm still working on my second problem with no luck. I'm thinking maybe it's a controller issue. How can I tell if my IDE controller is enabled?

Go into your bios and see if your IDE channel is set to 'auto'. If I remember correctly its on the first page.Choose one of the HD's hit enter, which should then take you to IDE HDD Detection where you can see your settings.

And have you a floppy disk that has your SCSI drivers on??

I don't have a floppy with the SCSI drivers on it. The SCSI drives boot up fine. In my BIOS, I have settings for:

    Primary Drive 0
    Primary Drive 1
    Secondary Drive 0
    Secondary Drive 1

It does not list whether the drives are SCSI, IDE, SATA, etc. The "Primary Drive 0" and "Primary Drive 1" are set to "off". I tried changing them to "auto" but it didn't seem to accomplish anything. Curiously, when I highlight one of the Primary Drive settings and hit enter, it tells me "unknown" or "undetectable" device instead of listing the model number on my 2 working SCSI drives.

"Secondary Drive 0" and "Secondary Drive 1" are my DVD drives. They are IDE. Highlighting them and hitting enter correctly gives me the models of the DVD drives I have installed. I'll have to get a cable with more connectors, but if all I want to to is use an IDE drive as storage, could I just attach it to the IDE cable that my DVD drives are connected to?

Success! I was able to get it to work. I was making things more complicated than they needed to be. The problem was a misplaced jumper. Also, I assumed the "Primary Drives" were my SCSI drives, when in fact they're there for IDE drives. I'm still a beginner with this stuff. But I'm learning. Thanks.

Well done, and learning is a patience skill which you seem to have :)
