    Hi All,
I've recently got hold of a Seagate STD2401LW Tape Drive and I cannot get it to work. I've got an Adaptec host adapter fitted in the PC and the tape drive connected to that (Obviously), the adapter is working fine and windows recognizes it but it won't find the tape drive. Also when I run SCSI utilities while booting, the adpater cannot find the drive either. All the jumpers and dip switches are set as default. The only thing that happens is the 3 leds on the front all flash and I am unable to insert or eject a tape. If I unplug the scsi cable then I can insert and eject tapes.
Anybody got any ideas as I know very little about scsi devices.
    Cheers

Boy its been a long time since I put one of those in a pc. What I do remember is there is a jumper or switch on the back that tells the adapter that it is the first drive in the sequence or something like that (they can be daisy chained) and if its not right it will not be seen. Trial and error me bucko, start flipin switches and see what happens. Some times taking the jumper off competely is another setting, usually when this is so there will be a pin off by itself so you can put the jumper on the single pin for storage so you will not loose it.

I have jumpers for ID settings, default is 6. Parity checking, default is enabled. Termination power, default is off.

    DIP switches are set to
Data compression, enabled. SCSI DC control enabled. Media recognition enabled. Self test enabled. Operating system, windows. Wide/narrow SCSI, default wide. Enquiry string, enabled.

Cable has a terminator on the last connector.

When I first installed the drive, terminator power was ON but this made no difference.

Settings on the host adapter are all set to default. Adaptec AHA-2944UW.

The way I see it everything is set right and it should work but as I said I know very little about SCSI.

Any other ideas, and please don't tell me the drive's 'broke'
