    Hello Techies,

So i have a digital camera with an 8 GB PNY SD memory card that refuses function properly. It worked fine earlier this afternoon and now this evening i'm getting errors. I have over 300 family photos on it and hope it’s recoverable.

I've tried several things to troubleshoot the issue to no avail and now have ended up here. When i insert the card into my laptop it says: "You need to format the disk in drive E: before you can use it." Of course, i select NO because a format is the last thing i want to do. So i try to bypass the problem by going through the camera to the computer via cable connection and i get the following error from the camera: "Image database file error cannot recover"

So then i decide to run half a dozen file recovery programs and they too find nothing on the card. I ran priform Recuva, Asoftech Data Recovery, PCinspector, EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard 9.5, 4Card Recovery, iCare Data Recovery and others, and some don't even recognize the drive while others do. When i select the drive and click on properties it shows a full blue pie chart meaning the memory is maxed out.

I effin' hate this silicone memory Sh#t....what ever happened to instant gratification the Polaroid use to provide??? LOL.

Any help, suggestions or guidance is greatly appreciated!

    Photo-less here in Philly:(

I tried another card reader with no results as well as 2 other laptops and tower computer......still nothing. I am not familiar with Linux or a puppy stick.

Ok.. since we weren't told the OS in use, thoroughly familiarize yourself with the following link and its steps before starting.

    https://www.winhelp.us/recover-files-using-puppy-linux.html

NOTE: "Creating the Puppy Linux bootable USB drive" halfway down the first page makes it easy. BUT, I don't think that you have many attempts to get in left...read & study first!

Thanks for the prompt reply Dr.

So I thoroughly read the link you provided, downloaded Puppy Linux and created a bootable DvD, which I ran. Entered the program with no problems.

While my SD card shows up on my Windows 10, unfortunately it is not a mountable option within Puppy. I would expect to see something mountable named: "sdd1" at the lower left-hand corner, which I do not. That's unfortunate. Is there any other tools within that program that may be applicable to my situation? Of course my HDD and DVD show up as mountable options.

    You're welcome.
The Puppy Linux OS distro was the safest tool I could think of to gently probe the sd card without causing further damage, which it now it appears significant.

Hopefully someone else will chime in with other ideas. Good Luck!

Thanks again Doc, your time and efforts are appreciated!

    Plodr,

I tried both PhotoRec and Card Data Recovery and neither worked. They both recognized the card but recovered zero files. What a bummer.

This all started last Friday at Walmart, I took my camera card there to develop some pictures of my baby husky puppy. Everything worked fine with the photo kiosk, added the photos to the shopping cart and as I was ready to check out the machine went blank. So I moved to the computer next to that one and immediately noticed my SD Card would not work.....Effin' Walmart! I am wondering if they have any type of liability? The least they could do is give me another camera card.

Anything else you have up your sleeves for me to try? Or do you think I am pretty much screwed?

    Hi

Just a weird thought in have you tried another PC to load this card or if you open Device Manager and then USB branch at the bottom, then plug the card in and when its icon shows as likely a mass storage device, right click and delete/uninstall it, then plug back in as sometimes USB or mass storage devices end up with a corrupt drive letter or driver and uninstalling or changing drive letter works.

In the main they are not always corrupt.
