Hello forum - first post, but a friend told me to turn here to see if anyone could offer up some advice and if Ardunio could help with what I'm looking to do.

I am looking to take an SD card that goes into a point and shoot camera, extend it out of the camera using an SD ribbon card/extension cable and then be able to somehow hook it up to my computer to be able to be read instantly. Where Ardunio fits into all this, I'm unsure.

I'm essentially looking for a way to connect my camera's memory card directly to my computer, while the card is still inside of the camera and then read files from it.

(A few notes: 1) there is no "camera control" software for this make and model of camera 2) I haven't seen a male/male SD ribbon card)

Is this feasible or possible with or without Arduino? Again, I am very, very new beginner to all this and any advice would be greatly appreciated and where to start.

    Thanks,

    Greg

    Hi Greg

1st off welcome to the forum

You may actually not need a card reader at all, I say this as many digital cameras can if supplied with a USB cable can connect to a PC directly with as you want the card in the camera still, so my next question is:

What make and model camera do you have and did it come with a USB cable?

May I ask why you are opposed to removing the card from the camera? We had 3 digital cameras (now down to 2) and I remove the cards from them and copy the files to a computer. I then burn the images to a data CD before i do anything else with the pictures.

One computer has an sd card slot but I also have 2 USB readers for the computers that don't have card slots.

    example: http://www.walagata.com/w/perk/MjG/sdholder.jpg
this is my oldest card reader. I got a newer one that says Vivitar on it.
