Search gives up duplicate results

    When I search from XP I always end up with duplicate results for files and folders that meet the search criteria. Any ideas why this should happen and what I need to change to rectify this queery?

    Depends on what files you are searching for, there are many with duplicates index.dat is a common one.

    maybe try the Search Options and narrow your searches to Date and Modified or Created ( you can also narrow down the date from & to field ).

    Thanks for that Halo. The files can be Word files mainly but this error happens with every kind of file and folder. As for trying a more specific search I don`t think it should be necesary as there is nothing complicated about the search criteria to warrant extra scrutiny.
