hi, I've already read the thread on installing a second hard drive and it was great!

My question is which type of hard drive (internal vs external) would be the best bet for running music.
My friend has a dell with a 20 gig hd and wants more space to use his system as a disco.. hey what can I say....

I'm not sure which will have the best speed and cost...

    Thanks

    Bri

Neither will be better than the other for playing music. Both internal and external hard drives will be more than fast enough to read and play music from.

Obviously, internal hard drives are the cheaper of the two. The only reason you would want an external hard drive would be if you needed to take the music with you without taking your computer. But, since you'll need a computer to play the music, that may or may not be much of a selling point.

    i.e.:

$60 for 160Gb internal hard drive
    $100 for a 80-100Gb external hard drive
$150 for a 40Gb external USB hard drive (no need for a power cable... Basically a 40Gb thumb drive)
