Security help

    hey guys if you can help that would be nice, newbie here and my free norton expired today i cant afford the upgrade now i am already using avg i just want toi know is my windows fire a good one i dint know anything about computers and a friend pointed my to you guys over here at MG. So the question is do i need to purchase a special software witch i know would be better or am i safe for now much thanks

    windows firewall in vista is good but you can always d/l (for free) Zone Alarm.

    I dont personally use it anymore as I find vistas own quiet good.

    Just google Zone Alarm

    Norton EATS resources so I stay well away from any form of norton software.

    Thanks alot can i just turn it on and everything will be good it is off because when i ran norton they turn it off automatically

    To turn on Vista's firewall:

    PICCOLO, enough people have trouble with the Commodo Firewall that I would not recommend that you install it. Since Vista's firewall is good, make sure that it is turned on by following dr.moriarty's instructions.

    From those ratings at matousec, I've been steering people towards Online Armor.
    One user had a problem a few days ago with a BSOD. A Sysinternals monitor (not sure specifically which one) has a conflict and shoots up an error about "tdimsys.sys". Just a heads up, in case anyone thinks about installing Online Armor, you might want to check to be sure which Sysinternals program needs to be removed.
