My brother has "Security Toolbar 7.1" infection on his computer. He is in another state so I cannot go there (at least not for a few weeks) and help him.

I could follow the manual instructions to remove, but he cannot, he is a computer novice.

He is running Avast and it is up to date. I also had him run Ad-Adware and Spybot and they do not find this malware.

Are there any legit and respected Malware removal programs he can just download and buy. He is willing to pay to get rid of this malware.

    thanks for any help

Anyone have any thoughts on this....I see plenty of views but no replys! Major Geeks recommends Spyware Doctor. Problem is when I go there and look at the user comments in their own support section. I see a lot of unhappy users. So I am asking again has anyone else used any of these products...ie: Spyware Doctor, Spysweeper, to get rid of something like "Security Toolbar 7.01" malware.

    thanks for any help :wave

    Bumping does not help.....:)

It will be difficult to deal with this thru second parties ...but you could first have him download and run:
    Combofix.exe
    2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
    3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Attach this log to your next reply

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

And then have him sign up at MG's and do the READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

Thank you for your replay and offer of help. As I stated in my original post I could do the manual remove procedures and have done so in the past on my own computer and others.

You are 100% correct...doing this secondhand would be a challange. One that I am sure my brother is not up to...remember he is a novice..uses his computer as a "user". Has no technical skills whatsoever!

This is why I have asked for a recommendation of a spyware/malware company when he can "buy" a product to download and install and run.

He does not mind paying a fair amount 19.95 or 29.95 to get rid of "Security Toolbar 7.1".

I know it is possible to remove it with a variety of scans using free products my I don't have the time to teach him, nor will I be seeing him for another month.

Anyway thanks for your offer, it is appreciated but not really what I was hoping for.

Just want a little feedback on the "paid products" and if they work as marketed.

Ok thank you. I will suggest he buy CounterSpy. He does have Ad-Adware and Spybot..which I installed my last visit..but they are not finding the "security toolbar 7.1 (also known as zlob). Avast finds it but its keep refinding it everyday, so from what he tells me, it sound like Avast is not able to completey get rid of it..

thanks again for your time and suggestions:wave

No probelm ...just beware that he should only run one anti-virus and that no anti-virus program will find everything as new stuff crops up daily.

He should also run the ComboFix!
