I've followed the instructions in "READ & RUN ME FIRST."

Various alert balloons from a yield sign icon in the tray. These display a few different messages ("Security Alert: Spyware found", "system Alert: Trojan-Spy", "System Alert: Malware threats", "System Performance Monitor: Warning")

If I click on the balloon message avast antivirus displays an alert saying "adware was found" in ...\Local Settings\Temp with random names like mofugclq.exe. If I just click the X on the balloon it seemingly does nothing. When the avast warning appears I select "Delete."

Other pop-ups titled "Critical System Warning!" that say "Your system is probably infected with the latest version of Spyware.Cyberlog-X."

Numerous new browser windows popping with different titles and addresses ("Safety Center" //www.savetheinformation.com/v4/, "System Defender" //www.protectroom.com/)

Security Toolbar 7.1 in browser (Internet Explorer 6).

The AVG log said there was nothing there, though the last scan show 7 cookies and nothing else.

I didn't see the option for generating the ActiveScan log. Others attached. Will put Hijackthis log in next post.

    Thanks.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!
It was explained in the Read Me
Don't worry about it now but tell me did it find anything other than cookies?

While I work thru all of your logs, do the below. I will post a complete fix soon.

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

    Uninstall the below software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 3
Viewpoint Media Player <-- should have been uninstalled in step 0 of the READ ME

After completing my instructions in message # 3, continue with the below.

Run HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4402198A-75BC-4F85-B143-739242C0C850} - D:\WINDOWS\system32\jkkli.dll

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: bjwdwvlh - D:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\bjwdwvlh.dll

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.

    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    • Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:

    • You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt
Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. This program does not require an installation. The executable actually runs the program.

NOTE: This program is for Windows XP and Windows 2000 only. ATF Cleaner will remove all files from the items that are checked so if you have some cookies you'd like to save. Please move them to a different directory first.

    • Under Main choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.

    • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

    2. GetRunKey
    3. ShowNew
    4. HJT

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Chaslang, you are a saint! I want you to know how much I appreciate your help and the time you put into helping people like me, and on Thanksgiving, to boot. Thank you!

Things appear to be better now. I no longer have the security toolbar or the pop-ups or redirects.

    I'm happy!

I've attached the requested logs. I'll add the hjt log in another reply.

    Thanks again.

    You're welcome.

However you turned MSconfig on which we specfically request that you not use in step 0 of the READ ME. Due to this we cannot continue. You must not use MSconfig. After getting back into normal startup mode, you will have to attach new logs from GetRunKey, ShowNew and HijackThis so that we can continue. You still have malware on your PC.

Sorry about that. I'm so used to turning off most of the stuff that puts itself in startup.

I've turned on Normal Startup and attached the requested files.

    Thanks again.

You should not be doing this. Especially with MSconfig. You should uninstall things you don't use. (Toolbars...etc) If you cannot uninstall because you need the software, you should stop others that you never need by permanently removing them from startup using a tool like HijackThis to remove the startup entry. If you sometimes need them to load, you should use a real startup manager like Startup CPL

Run HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FFF6C283-0F6F-45DB-8250-179C8634006B} - D:\WINDOWS\system32\jkkli.dll (file missing)

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SoundMAXPnP] D:\Program Files\Analog Devices\Core\smax4pnp.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "D:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ece25524] rundll32.exe "D:\WINDOWS\system32\pnanufrt.dll",b

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    You're welcome.

Your logs are clean. If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix, you can delete the ComboFix.exe file, C:\ComboFix folder, C:\QooBox folder, C:\WINDOWS\nircmd.exe, C:\combofix.txt and C:\ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt logs that was created.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    6. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    7. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    8. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    9. You can delete the ShowNew.Zip and GetRunkey.Zip files and the files that you extracted from the ZIP files. You can also delete the C:\newfiles.txt and C:\runkeys.txt logs that were created
    10. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • go back to step 8 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    11. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
