Seeking a utility to arrange Systray icons

I have so many apps now that run from a tray icon, that it is getting awkward to access my most frequently needed apps.

I would like to have something that would let me group systray icons or put them on a right-click menu, or in some way let me arrange them so most-needed would be most accessible.

Google only found me tools that arrange desktop icons and taskbar buttons.
I use Taskix to rearrange the normal taskbar buttons, but can't find anything that operates on the system tray.

(another dream would be to force some apps to run in background without showing an icon at all, but that's for another thread.)

Has anyone heard of such a tool?

Thanks in advance for any advice you might have.

Super! I've spent a little time trying it out, and it does just what I need --- puts selected systray icons into a button next to quickLaunch that expands into a menu upon mouseover.

Thank you so much for the link! I would never have found this with search engines.

I unfortunately don't know which operating system you are using. I'm using Windows 7 and I am able to rearrange systray icons by simply dragging and dropping them around the systray area. You can configure which icons show in the tray area and which ones are hidden. To do this:

    1) Open Control Panel
    2) Click "Notification Area Icons" --> This will bring up a list of all the programs that have the ability to appear in the systray as an icon.
    3) For each icon that is configured to show in the system tray, use the drop-down menu to chose when you want the icon to show. Your choices are:

    1) Show icon and notification (always)
    2) Hide icon and notification (never)
    3) Show only notification (show but then automatically disappear again)

Items assigned to 1) will be shown in the systray
Items assigned to 3) will not be shown in the systray unless the program wants to alert you to something, in which case it will appear until you click on it and then it disappears again.
Items assigned to 2) will not be shown in systray under any circumstances.

Hope that helps. Please let me know if you don't understand my instructions. In that case I can either try again after I've had less than 7 cups of coffee in the past hour, or I might be able to come up with a link that I recently found that deals with exactly this issue.

Great little application, plodr. Thanks! ;)

I have been using Kana Launcher version 3.1.0.40 from Kana Solution however it has not been updated in a while (since 2003) and when using it with Windows 7 and 8 at times the program unfortunately bogs down computer memory and it sometimes does not load the icons properly. So I will definitely give QuickRun 3.12 a try. Thanks again.

    Good Luck! -- COMP
