Hoping somebody here can give pros/cons of Comodo software, or perhaps point me to a review that does not come off looking/sounding like an ad.

Last year my brother bought me Sunbelt Kerio firewall, and it has been nothing but trouble for a year - mostly system instability issues. So the subscription expired and it started popping up messages telling me that it was no longer protecting the computer, and of course that annoying Windows pop-up telling me that the system was not protected.

I uninstalled it and have the Comodo firewall now, and it seems pretty good - but how would I really know if it is "good"?

Some of their other software looks interesting too, like their antivirus, BOclean and the Verification Engine.
Does anybody here have any "hands on" with the Comodo software?
How often are their virus signatures updated?
How come the virustotal site does not use them?
How does it compare to other similar products?

If it's all free, how do they stay in business?

Some sites warn that "free" software might be spying -uploading personal data. How can one know if that is happening?

My brother gave me NOD32 last year, but it expires next week. I'm wondering if it's worth keeping, or if I should try using some of the Comodo products.

Thanks in advance SO much for any comments or suggestions!

I personally use AVG AntiVirus Free and Comodo Free Firewall. In my opinion, these are the best two free applications because they work great, they're free and they both use very little resources.

The companies that offer free application have other software that does cost. They have a lot of different versions of their software from home and home office to corporate versions. If it's a legit company such as Grisoft, Webroot, Kaspersky, etc; there is nothing to worry about.
