    Serious BIOS problem

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello. I have recently been having problems with the sound on my computer. I have been to other forums that have told me to download the updated drivers, which I did before I went to the forums to begin with. I did as they requested again, and still no luck. I went through a link that one guy gave to to Dell.com and downloaded one that I thought would finally fix my sound issues. That one failed also, so I decided to download all the drivers on that page that were available to me. I started with an update for my BIOS,.. (which I was pretty sure didn't have anything to do with the problem) and after I extracted the files and restarted my computer, I got this message almost instantly: System haulted! Alert! Incompatible processor detected! This didnt seem like a big deal at first, I just thought i could go into BIOS from there and restore the default one... turns out that my keyboard is USB, and my computer has no older ports (sorry I don't know the name of em') and my computer is not acknowledging my keyboard or mouse, and since the USB directories are on my BIOS and I cant get into BIOS.. it seems that I'm screwed.. Can anyone help me out at all with this problem? :/

    Thank you.

Sounds like you might have had a failed BIOS flash. What is the make and model of your motherboard?

My first suggestion is to check with the manufacturer's web-site and see if there are any troubleshooting procedures or FAQs listed that match the problem you are having. If a corrupt BIOS seems like the culprit, see if there are any recovery directions for a bad flash. The fact you are getting anything at all on boot is a hopeful sign.

The older ports you refer to are called PS/2 - they are round, and the one for a keyboard is normally purple (PS/2 mouse ports are normally green). You said your board doesn't have either of these?

Just as a help the Dell model for this question is a Dell DM051 as found in previous thread here

My question would be what BIOS version update did you install? as if it was the A02 version then you have gone backwards as your original Bios version was A05 as found in your Everest report, which is likely why the incompatible message is coming up as the newer Bios version cover more CPU versions.

See if you can re-flash with the A05 bios.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried resetting the my mobo by removing the battery for a minute and then putting it back, and I tried to reset it by moving the jumper around but those didn't work either. Is there a certain order you have to go in when trying to reset it? I'm almost about to give up on this pc. If it weren't for those damn USB ports ><!
Any info that could be given would help a lot :)

    Thanks
