    Hi,

Firstly I am not the best when it comes to PC's and technology, so please bear with me.

My laptop was running fine until yesterday, when I downloaded a game from a random website (was bored)...which turned out to be a virus (i think). It's characteristics are:

    - win reanimator starts

    - i get that red circle with a white 'x' in the middle on my toolbar, which constantly says:

    Your computer is infected!

windows has dectected a spyware infection!

It is reccomended to use special antispyware tools to pervent data loss. Windows will now download and install the most up-to-date antispyware for you.

Click here to protect your computer from spyware!

    - my internet is very, very slow (to the point where i can barely load google which is my home page - normally it is very quick - i am at university)

    - my pc generally is very very slow now (it never was before)

    - it seems to prompt the installation of MS office every time i click on an office program like MS word

    - sometimes when i start my laptop it stays at the first screen and windows xp will not load - i need to hold down the power key and try again

    - When I start up my PC and log in, whilst windows is loading i get this error message:

Important - Potential errors found in the system

During a scan of files at system startup, potential errors in the system registry were found.
    p-07-0100 iqrl: 1f SYSVER 0xff00024
    NT_Kernel error 1256
    KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

And there is a red circle with a white 'x' in the middle next to all this. Im not sure if it's part of the virus/spyware or not.

    - My C drive icon under 'My Computer' has a big red X next to it unstead of the normal grey icon. I can still access it though.

I have read the XP cleaning procedures, but they dont work for me. I can download the programs, but then:

-SUPERAntiSpyware does not respond when i click on it to try and install it

-SpyBot - Search & Destroy will install but will not run - no response when I try and click on it to run it

-ComboFix will not run - I have tried typing in "%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /killall under run - no response

I have tried running them in safe mode - still nothing

MGTools seemed to work, and I have attatched my logs zip file to this post.

I'm really stuck and I hope it is nothing too major, as I have a lot of work due in over the next week and need my PC a lot!

Many, many thanks in advance for helping me out with this one!

Serious help indeed ....:)....Lets start with this:
Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following:

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.
    * Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Do not change any check box options!!
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:

    * Now click the Execute button.
    * Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    * Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    * Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

Now run CCleaner and then try running ComBoFix again and attach that log.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

Be sure to tell us how things are running.

Thanks for the quick response, I have done what you suggested, but not everything worked:

    1. HijackThis - did what you said, no problems

    2. fixME.reg - did this, no problems (saved it to my documents by mistake and ran it from there - is that a problem?)

    3. Avenger - It wouldnt let me execute. The following error message comes up:

Error: Could not open RunOnce key to register cleanup.
Aborting execution! (error 0: the operation completed successfully)

    4. CCleaner - ran okay

    5. ComboFix - still no luck with getting it to run

    6. MGtools - zip file attached

Is my PC badly infected? What do I do next?

    Many thanks again

Give me a minute to fix my last post ....and yes it does matter with the reg. patch. Open it up and resave it to the desktop as directed ...then try Avenger again ...do both in Safe Mode and be sure you have turned off all anti-virus and spyware programs.

Paste this into the Avenger box:
You have a ton of items in two locations that are "posXXXXX.tmp" they will all need to go, but if we can get COmbo to run, it will take care of them.

Did you try Combo in safe mode? DId you input the script into the run box?

Let me know if the above work and get a new MGLogs.zip

Resaved the .reg file on desktop as directed and let it merge. However, still no luck with the others. Ran avenger and Combo in safe mode (tried Combo using the run command yes). I've attached the new MGlog.

    Any ideas?

Oh and i've turned off all anti-spyware and anti-virus programmes when doing all this.

The reg patch did not work ....so lets let an online scan do some cleaning:

Go to Bitdefender agree to the license and then select Scan. DO NOT CHANGE THE OPTIONS TO SHOW ALL FILES SCANNED. That will make your logs huge and we don't need to see clean files. Once Bitdefender completes the scan:

Click-on the Detected Problems tab. Then select Click here to export the scan report

When the window comes up to save the report, change the Save as type: box to Text (Tab Delimited) (*.txt) and then in the File name box enter change to bdscan then click save. This will save a file named bdscan.txt in whatever folder you are currently in when you save the file (take notice of where you are at so you can find it later). This bdcan.txt file will actually contain HTML code that we can easily view later while reviewing your log. All we have to do is rename the file to bdscan.html.

Left the scan running overnight (it took ages!)..woke up this morning expecting it to be done..but it jammed! my pc was frozen..had to hold down the power button to turn it off and restart! according to the scan it had found viruses and deleted the files so far...had done about 8hrs worth of scans and still had about 6hrs left...im leaving it running today whilst im away, but here's the latest MGlog in the mean time (i dont know if it will be different to the last one)

    Thanks again

Update: I cannot get BitDefender to run the way through...it keeps freezing my PC and browser for some reason or the other, and I am forced to do a manual shutdown each time. I have tried 3 times and I'm currently on my 4th attempt. It says 'estimated time left: 06:42:27'...should it take this long?

    Thanks again

I managed to get Bitdefender to run to completion, and it took less time than expected! My PC seems to be running quicker, however win reanimator re-installed itslef somehow and popped up again (i uninstalled it).

My new MGlogs.zip and bdscan.txtare attatched.

Please let me know what you reckon.

    Thanks once again

You are still highly infected and need to do the following exactly:

Print these instructions out and disconnect from the web.

disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following:

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
NOTE: HJT may popup an error about the AppInit_DLLs line. Ignore it and click OK to continue.

    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.

Check your system and manually delete those that remain ...also find and delete all the C:\pos.xxxx.tmps and the C:\Documents and Settings\Doc\My Documents\pos.xxx.tmps!
Uninstall / delete Combofix and re-download it and try it again.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

I think I have made some progress:

    1. HijackThis - did as you reccomended, all went okay

    2. fixME.reg - did as you reccomended, all seemed to go okay

    3. Avenger - still no luck getting it to run, I get the same error message. I managed to delete most of the files manually, apart from:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\jftvpboo.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\khfffgd.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmkig.dll

Also all the pos.xxxx.tmps files - it wouldnt let me delete a single one saying that the file may be in use somewhere else

    4. Managed to get SUPERAntiSpyware to run - did what the general instructions on this website reccomended, and i've attached the log (SASlog.txt)

    5. Managed to get Spybot working - did a scan and fixed the problems that came up

    6. Managed to get ComboFix working - I've attached the log (combofix.txt)

    7. I've attached the latest MGLogs after doing all the above (MGLogs.zip)

    Thanks

You have made very good progress!! :)

    Now let's finish it up.
Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Open notepad and copy and paste the following text in the quote box into the window:
    Save this as fix.bat
Choose to save as all files.
Doubleclick fix.bat and let the program run.
A small black dos window will flash, this is normal.

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
o If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    File::
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\weqsqawd.ini
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ydalizun.inf
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ujyxyjuci.ban
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\amitanyt.scr
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\inifel.inf
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\buxydewa.dl
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ilozoweset._dl
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\acicuji.db
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ymobepujoc.scr
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\dwaqsqew.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\braviax.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\inf\qwetab.inf

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    * Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from ComboFix.

Wow my PC is a lot faster now!

I did what you said and everything went okay, apart from:

    - For HijackThis:

O23 - Service: Microsoft cache control (MSControlService) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\windows (file missing)

Did not come up when I did the scan so I could not fix it.

Popups seem to have disappeared, internet speed seems to be back to normal..thanks!

I have attached the combofix and MGLogs logs

For antivirus/spyware protection, which programs do you reccomend? I have norton 360 - should I use that?

    Thanks again

    Sweet....Your logs look clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
    * Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix, you can delete the ComboFix.exe file, C:\ComboFix folder, C:\QooBox folder, C:\WINDOWS\nircmd.exe, C:\combofix.txt and C:\ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt logs that was created.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    6. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    7. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    8. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    9. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    10. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
    * Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
    * Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    11. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
*How to Protect yourself from malware!
