serious lap top problem please help!!!!!!!

    ok guys i just bought a laptop from a buddy of mine and it had got a virus that made it restart compleetly....so i droped the system and i was repartitoning the hard drive well little did i know the laptop was running on thye batt,not the plugincord and right in the middle of the partitioning the batt went dead and the lap top shut off now its saying that it cant read the disk or theirs not one in it and the windows xp homeedition is in it now i dont know what to do,is it totaly ruined or is their something i can do to fix the problem?????????

    As for fixing the hard drive, yes! The WinXP Home installation is probably hosed! Go into your BIOS and see what type of hard drive that you have. Go to the manufacturers web site ( check MG first under drive utilities ) and download their utilities for the hard drive. Most have a program that will write 0's to all the sectors on the hard drive, returning it to an as shipped condition minus the wear. Being that it is a laptop and most use OEM Windows installations, if you don't have the recovery CD, any OEM Home Edition CD will work, just be sure to use the CD key supplied on the laptop!
