Serious MS Word Issues

Hello all!

I've had this problem for quite a long time by now, I work in a translation agency and have to work on serious projects most of the time. My docs are mainly ms word documents. The problem is, although my pc at work seems to have a stable system (is an intel celeron 2.40 w/ 256 ram with XP SP 2) except for being tad slow, MS Word (v. Office 2003) freezes and crashes unexpectedly (with no signs of prior slowdowns whatsover) and ends up corrupting the file I was working on. Most of the time, I'm unable to recover or rescue the file so the whole project goes down the drain. I've asked the tech support several times, they also don't know what the problem is all about, there's no virus because our systems are regularly checked and also have avast pro and ad-aware (adwatch active) pro with regular updates installed. None of the machines at the office except mine has the problem.

I've enabled MS Word's automatic back up feature that saves a second document with the extension .wbk, yet, sometimes that file also turns out to be corrupt whenever I try to open it. I ouldn't find any information on the net so perhaps you guys might know the issue. Could it be a hardware problem or a bad sector?

ms word is known for this ..sounds like a registry fix ...
If this is your work pc.. call the tech support(in house??)
as you may not have access to do this

Just read. I think I'll follow their instructions regarding the normal.dot file and see further if it isn't of any help Thank you for the link.

 

Yes, we have them. The lightbulb has flashed it may be the normal.dot that is corrupt and hits the soft spot at times gonna replace the file and see further.
