    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Perhaps it was a bad idea to do this since it appears you may have broken things on your own. What exactly did you do? What instructions in what thread were you following?

Depending on what you did, if you stopped Remote Procedure Call (RPC) from running, you could have great difficulty recovering from this. Did you try to restart the service from services.msc? Do you get an error message? If so is it the one mentioned in the below?

If this service is stopped many many things on your PC will not work. Most of the other System Service require RPC to be running or they will not run.

If the registry editor still work you could try the below registry patch and then reboot after applying it.

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure you receive a success message about adding this to the registry so that you know it was definitely added.

Also you can read the below if the above does not help:

Thanks chaslang, I don't think I did anything to drastic just ran a few spyware programs that were recommended. Nothing has changed after trying the fixes you suggested if you have any other tricks up your sleeve i'd be most grateful. Ta.

For us to get a better idea of your status you will need to complete the below steps. However if you have disabled the RPC service, the steps I already gave you may be the only fix other than reinstalling.

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
