    hi,
i have a wireless network set up to share an internet connection..all of a sudden the internet connection on the pc has stopped working. The wireles adapter connects fine but i get an error saying 'limited or no connection'.When i click repair, it gets as far as assigning an ip address + this is when it gets stuck
ive googled and found a few things to try such as ipconfig/renew and release, also rebooting router and pc, reseting tcp/ip connection and running winsock xp.
None works, ive also checked for spyware etc but none..
My laptop is working fine so it cant be the router and the adapter on the pc seems to be fine because the connection on that is good...its just the internet.
Ive found one more solution which advises to set a static ip address but this was advised for wired connections.
When setting up wireless, the settings i was instructed to use was 'automatically detect settings' so just wondering if setting a static one will make things worse?also how the hell do u actually set a static ip address?

i have win xp sp2, (which has NOT just been installed recently as i read this could be the prob) and its linksys router and wireless adapter
    really appreciate any help, thanks:)

I was getting the same error and for the longest time, I scratched my head.

I found that I had hard coded two IP addresses for my ISP's DNS servers in the DHCP section of the Linksys router that were no longer valid.

Confirm that you are picking up an IP Address on your laptop from the router by right clicking on the wireless network connection and selecting properties. Double Click on TCP/IP - Obtain an IP address automatically should be ticked.

Go to the Linksys setup page by pointing your browser to the LAN IP (192.168.1.1 on my network) and make sure DHCP is enabled then see if you have numbers populated in the DNS.

If you do, remove those numbers leaving the fields blank.

Hit "apply" and wait until the Linksys router reloads the setup page.

Now go to your laptop and hit repair and see if that fixes the problem.
