I have a Win98 computer at my mother's house. I have joysticks for it but haven't used them for over a decade. I don't quite remember how to set them up. So, hoew do I do it?

98 is NOT plug and play.
Rather than post "I have joysticks", you need to post brands and exact models of the joysticks. Finding a Win 98 driver for hardware might not be easy. But if you give all the brands and models one might have a driver out there.

I think it is Plug&Play. As for the joystick models, I don't have them here, so I don't know. When I go to my mother's house again, I can look at the model #s and download the proper drivers. Once that's done, how do I install the joystick?

Windows 98 is Plug and Play for many types of devices; though, in that era we often called it Plug and Pray.......
Regardless; most joystick/game controllers, from those days, use a 15 pin D-sub connector which was usually on the sound card. Afterwards, most of the settings were usually in the specific game you were playing.
If it is a USB joystick, then Windows 98 will need drivers for it as USB was still in its infancy. If it worked ten years ago, what happens if you plug it in and reboot the PC?

Again, I'm not at my mother's house right now, and I don't fully remember how I did it. I remember having to install a special joystick driver and setting it up but forgot some specifics. BTW, I think it's a D-sub connector joystick.

Probably a driver for that particular brand of joystick. Search the make and model of the joysticks and I have no doubt you will find the driver you need. Win98 (SE in particular) was certainly Plug and Play for many devices . . . especially joysticks. I had a Logitech Wingman stick that rocked, and had no issue with it on Win98SE. I did need a Logitech suite to configure it properly, as I recall.

I can find the driver on driverguide.com. I just want to know how to install the joystick.

Not sure what you mean . . . what is the make and model of the joystick?

I don't know the make and model of the joystick, as they're at my mother's house and I'm not there right now. When I'm there, I can find out the make and model of the joystick and download the proper driver. After that, how do I install the joystick?

Okay. I got a joystick to work, but the joystick I installed wasn't the one I wanted to install at first--I changed my mind at the last minute. It was easy! :) I expected it to be harder because of the nature of PC joysticks.
