Setting up a linux server

i wonder the title is correct, as i am living in a small town, my friend owned a small cyber cafe with around 30 pc, previously his father used to set up all these stuff, but sadly his father had a stroke... and unable to move around freely, and now we are having problem with the linux server, and we contact the previous technician but he say we need to pay him around rm(ringgit malaysia) 7000 for him to set up a new server - -"
so, i have some computer knowledge was thinking of helping my friend, but i have no idea what software to use, i read on ehow.com, i know that i need mainly
* Computer with CPU 3.0Ghz (got)
* SATA hard drives (got)
* 100MB/1GB ethernet card (got)
* Server software (?)
* Gaming software (?)
* Server monitoring software (?)
* Computer tools (?)
any idea what i need? :yum

Do you know what kind of Linux software is installed on the server that is giving your problems?

If you can login to the server, you can find out what is running. We have plenty of Geeks who are Penguin Lovers (Linux Enthusiasts) on the board.

I arent sure about that.. it's running on a non-hard disk, which i access to the server from a normal client and update/changing the games/softwares..
