Im sorry to have to ask this, but all I could find in google were web proxys themselves, not how to make and host my own. Im very newb when it comes to stuff like this (but not computers, just making web sites) I would like to set up my own web proxy that would allow me to bypass web filters. My school uses Shelterbelt from Twotrees. My problem with it is that it blockes usefull sites. For instance I was working on my History project and getting info online just like the rest of the class. The next day we all come back and start trying to gather info, but all the sites we had been using were now blocked. Ive yet to find a web proxy that isnt blocked and the only thing i can use is some crappy web translator that doesnt allow everything through. What I would like to do is set up my own web proxy on some free hosting, but i dont know how I would go about doing this. Can I copy the source code from another web proxy and use that? If so, how do I get that onto my hosting? Any help would be great, and thanks in advance.

Hey! I think i can help,

I just recently set up a SSH server with openssh, and i use that as a proxy. Openssh is a free ssh server and just set that up at your house and when you are at school/work or whatever u can import your ssh servers IP and use socks5 put your user name and password to the ssh server u set up and it will be an encrypted tunnel ..aka proxy. I must run so i cant go into detail, i will try and stop by and give you more info.

SSH tunneling isn't proxying. The two are completely different beasts. A proxy will retrieve information on your behalf, but a ssh tunnel is just an encrypted connection between two points.

And there may also be a reason why the sites are being blocked. If you think there is a good reason to make an exception to a block then ask the admin who put the block in place! If they agree with you (and if it's for work they almost certainly will) then they will lift the block.

I know that seems like effort, but how much more effort is it than bypassing security measures and breaking the rules - when you're doing something totally legitimate anyway?

Quite appart from that MajorGeeks will not provide you with the means to break school rules or in some cases local or even national law. End of discussion.
