Setting up new computer; will hdmi output on video card go to HDTV?

I'm awaiting the last components to arrive so I may put together my new rig. I got an XFX ATI Radeon HD5750 video card for the build, and I had a question about when I first turn it on to start installing Windows 7, installing drivers, etc. I only have a macbook as a computer right now, and I do not currently have a PC monitor. I have an Insignia 32" HDTV (with hdmi inputs). My video card has HDMI output; would I be correct in assuming I can use my HDTV as a monitor for the time being? Or would that be too much for the video card to handle? I wasn't sure if I needed to install drivers before using HDMI output on the video card, or if only the DVI output would work at first. And also, will the HDMI output on the video card carry any audio too?

Any explanations would be appreciated...thanks!

 

Hi, My understanding is that you can use your TV with this card and the all the drivers you should need will be on the install disc and all you will need is a HD cable you should not need any other cable than that as all video and sound travels through that cable.

If you have trouble initially getting the PC to display using an HDMI cable, don't panic.

If this happens simply connect the video using a standard SVGA or DVI cable to a monitor and install/update the video card drivers. Once the latest mfr. specific video drivers are installed it should work fine when reconnected to the TV via HDMI cable.

Although this may not be an issue, it has happened to me on a few setups.
