Hello all. Have a serious audio problem.

I have a Dell XPS 400, The issue I am having is with my audio. After Turning on my CPU If I start any audio applications IE Windows Media Player, or a Internet Web Radio the will play just fine. After about 2 min or less it seems if I start any new Audio programs or Stop and restart the allready open and running programs Nothing will work, it will all appear as if it is running and playing, but there is obviously no audio coming out.

I have checked under Admin tools (Device Manager) and have checked the Sound card under the device driver it all appears to be running normally, clicking on details shows me the device is working properly.

Also from the controll pannel clicking on Sounds and Audio devices, Each Page shows up Greyed out and I am unable to click on any of the detailed options, only 2 tabs are open Sounds and Hardware. Under the Hardware as I select each device they all state "This device is working properly".

I have downloaded the recent drivers for the SIgamtel Audio, and have installed them as of today. Still same thing, This is killing me, it is odd, some times I can go a week or 2 and everything will be working fine, then I will go weeks with this problem.

    PLEASE HELP!!! Thanks.

If Volume/Audio/Voice are all greyed out then it is your SIgamtel Audio Drivers.

Did you get them from here? Make sure they are the exact drivers for your computer and operating system.

    http://support.dell.com/support/dow... 400/9150&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=8907&libid=3

Download the package again and save it some where you can find it easily again. Maybe your desktop.

Now uninstall all your SIgamtel Audio Drivers and reboot your computer. When you restart it install the drivers again and then reboot your comp again. See if it helps.

Here is another interesting tidbit, I have a program that I use called "Teamspeak" (A Communications program) When you open this program and connect to a server you get an Digital Voice that tells you "Link Engaged" I can hear that!! and I can hear ppl talking on this program and they can hear me. Seems this problem is only with Music or DVD related programs?!?!?!?

It runs fine for a week or two and then nothing. Do you run a Registry cleaner or some other type of cleaner at this point? Any other app?

Then what? The problem solves itself and things work fine again untill?

Maybe you are changing some settings?

When I do get this issue, in the past (I dont know if this helps or even has anything to do with the issue) but I will do a system restore wizard and revert the system back to a previous date that I know works, I run a Reg Repair program, and I run all kinds of Virus scans and things like that, initially it will do nothing, and same prob over and over, but after a little while It will start working, so I have been unable to find the root of the problem, or the "one" thing that will fix it.

Here is another thing that I have noticed, before I used to see a Speaker Icon in the Little box containing the system clock (that speaker icon would allow me the adjust all the various volume interfaces) in the bottom right of the screen, I have been looking arround and have noticed that it is not there. I have also attempted to connect headphones to the Jack and still cannot hear any audio I am not sure if that is a separate interface or not, but just a nother tidbit.

Virus scans and spyware scans wont change any settings unless they find a problem.

You say you do a system restore to a point where you know it works, but, it still keeps failing on you.

I would get rid of all your system restore points and then re-install your drivers and Media player.

If this makes you nervous use your reg cleaner to back up your registry before you do it. Or you can use this program

Once you get things working the way you want you can delete the registry back up and make a new one and some new restore points.
